Sergeant Mark Watson Cartmell (1923 - 1943) served with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Regiment (103 Squadron) during WW2. He lost his life as the result of an accidental collision on 27 November 1943. Sergeant Mark Cartmell was the son of Thomas S. Cartmell and Constance M. Cartmell.

His Commonwealth War Graves Commission citation is as follows:

Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 103 Sqdn.

Sergeant Mark Cartmell was one of 7 crew members on a Lancaster Mk III (Serial No ED 417) out of Elsham Woods which collided with a Halifax Mk II from 428 Squadron returning from an operation to Stuttgart. All but one of the crew from the Lancaster Mk III died as the result of the collision. The crew of the Halifax Mk II also perished as a result of the collision.
